No, this is not some bun I bought from the local bakery, this is a homemade Baked Eggs and Cheese Strata *proud*
I stumble upon the recipe at iVillage.com and I find it pretty easy.
Baked Cheese and Egg Strata
I used a different proportion of bread-cheese-egg because I have only a baking dish that can accommodate 4 slices of bread.
4 slices of bread
5 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
salt
pepper
butter
1. Grease baking pan with butter.
2. Lay bread nicely in baking pan and place a little butter on each slice.
3. Sprinkle in a little pepper and salt.
4. Throw in cheddar cheese.
5. Mix eggs and milk in a different bowl and pour them all into the baking dish.
6. Cover with aluminum foil. Chuck the whole thing into the fridge. Leave overnight.
7. Sleep.
8. Wake up. Preheat oven at 175Celcius.
9. Chuck baking dish into the oven and it’ll be done in one hour. In the mean time, go wash up and fix that terrible hair of yours.
Easy peasy right?! Simple, easy and unhealthy. I love =)
You should see that it’s all actually on estimation. Throw in a little pepper, a little salt, and a little of any herbs you like. Experiment with anything, everything. I might try using tomato, for the texture reminds me very much of quiche.
I made one yesterday but it was a bit bland. I was too timid with the salt and pepper. I don’t even know what a strata was. It looks pretty much like any normal bread out there but no, it’s really different. Imagine bread soaked with eggs and baked … it’s a little like french toast, except that this is from the oven, not the stove top.
Today, I became bold. I grind in more salt and pepper, along with some random herbs.
I might try with some other herbs tomorrow. Like rosemary, parsley, coriander and what not. I know I have them in the community garden down there. Lavender maybe … hmm, is lavender edible? I might accidentally poison my housemate and I. *chuckles*
On a second thought, I shall leave the wild side of me for another day. Three continuous days of strata as breakfast doesn’t sound ideal.

Yeah, maybe another day.
